Do I need to extract the service pack 2 before I integrate by running the update.exe from the command line integrate or can I just run the WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.exe directly in the command line integrate. They both seem to work but is there any difference?
Service packs do not affect activation. You should always install the latest service pack, and your key will work with it as long as it is a legal key. The only service pack supported for Windows XP currently is SP3, so use that. As long as your key is legit, it will work.

Teledyne LeCroy's oscilloscope production lines are updated regularly to ship OS images complete with needed service packs and patches. A recovery partition is included on the hard disk drive of each Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope. Since it is possible you may receive an oscilloscope from storage or in transit for some period, we recommend routine application of critical OS patches as part of your regular oscilloscope maintenance. Your oscilloscope is expected to provide long service life (Teledyne LeCroy long term support extends for seven years after your oscilloscope is removed from the new product catalog) and therefore your recovery partition does age. If you find it necessary to rebuild an older oscilloscope, service packs and critical updates must also be reinstalled.
It is very important to note that the released Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 for Windows XP Home and Professional are not compatible with XP Embedded. Installing this service pack is likely to render your oscilloscope unusable, requiring Operating System re-installation.
Support for critical updates and service packs are not provided for XP Embedded. Windows XP pro may be installed if security updates are required. Contact your local Teledyne LeCroy service office for upgrade information.
